Happy April! We had a fun day tricking each other on Friday. I hope you all got to enjoy a brownie too! We have a busy week ahead. Please check your child's agenda each day for any updates.
This week in math our focus will be on telling time. We will be using analog and digital clocks to read time to the nearest minute. We will also be learning about AM and PM as well as elapsed time. These are great skills for the children to learn and easy ones for them to practice throughout the day. Please encourage them to figure out some time problems for real life at home!
We will be reading Boy Were We Wrong About Dinosaurs this week. This is a non-fiction trade book that explains how theories about dinosaurs have changed over time as scientists have found new information. The children will be practicing using text evidence in their writing and will even be creating their own dinosaurs by combining the adaptations of different species! We will continue working with adjectives this week as well!
The children are really loving our social studies unit on the economy. I think we may have some future financial analysts in the group! This week we will be learning about how budgets are used to help make decisions about money. We will also discuss commercials and marketing, and see share some of our favorite commercials!
The children are learning about plants and life cycles in science. As new flowers are blooming around us, don't forget to stop and take a look at the parts of the flowers!
This is our last full week of Lent in school. We will be heading towards the special celebration of Holy Week. This week we will spend time with Fr. Brian finishing the Stations of the Cross. We will also have the opportunity to receive the sacrament of Reconciliation. On Thursday we will attend the 7th grade Passion Prayer service which will bring to life the events of Holy Week.
I hope that everyone has a good week.
Mrs. Toritto
Here are some little things to help the days go smoothly:
The children should bring in one healthy morning snack and their lunch. Only refillable water bottles with sports tops or straws are allowed in the classroom (no screw tops or disposable bottles).
Agendas and red take home folders should be checked daily for notes or information. The website will also be updated weekly with upcoming events and an email list will be used for reminders and changes.
Please label all clothing, bags, and supplies with your child's name so that misplaced items can be returned.
PLEASE send dismissal changes in a note, not through email. If it's a last minute change, please call the office as I don't always get to check email while I'm teaching.
