Easter break is almost here! I can't wait to hear about all of the fun and adventures everyone had.
We are getting right back into the swing of things in 4th & 5th Grade. There are some new routines, but I am sure that the students will catch on quickly!
I wanted to make sure you are all aware of one of the consequences for 5th Graders. Academic Intervention has been around for a long time! Last year, due to Covid, it had to be handled differently. This year we are able to conduct it the way it was. If your child does not do their homework, they will attend Academic during their recess time in order to complete it. If they did not finish a test in the allotted time during the class, they will also go to Academic, but they will not be "charged" with an academic. There is of course a freebie, but we have been talking about this every day since last week. Reminders about what needs to be packed up and brought home are given every afternoon. Reminders to copy down the homework are also given. If you have any questions, please refer to the Student Handbook that went home. We are trying to instill more independence in 5th Grade, so we hope you understand!

Important Things to Know-HOMEWORK IS NOT OPTIONAL! Y our child will be getting daily HW as well as an occasional assignment to submit on Google Classroom.
-Students are occasionally assigned homework in Google Classroom from our Health, Computer, or R.E.A.D teachers. While this is posted on the homework board each day, it is the student's responsibility to log on and complete this by the due date (typically a week or more if given).
- Your child will need one (1) HEALTHY morning snack every day! Some examples are yogurt, fruit, granola bars, pretzels, Goldfish, Cheerios, etc! They will also need to bring their own water bottle each day. This is because the only thing they can drink at snack time is water! This should be in a bottle with a sports top or pop-up straw (tops that screw off often make spills that we try to avoid!)
-The expectation is that students are writing in script on all homework, tests, projects, etc.
-A note is required for all dismissal changes.
-Student Chromebooks will be staying in school only.

ReadingThis week 10/16, the 4th Grade will begin reading The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.
The 5th Grade will also begin reading Frindle. -

Social Studies- This school year, students will be learning U.S. History.
Keeping up with local news is important because we live in an ever-changing global world. Therefore, students should build the habit of using the internet, newspapers, and other credible media sources to stay updated with current events.
